About LM2596

The LM2596 series of regulators are monolithic integrated circuits designed for step-down (buck) switching applications. They are capable of driving a 3-A load with exceptional line and load regulation.

Available in fixed output voltages of 3.3 V, 5 V, and 12 V, as well as an adjustable output version, these regulators support an input voltage range of up to 40 V.

Pin Name Description
1 VIN Positive input supply for the IC switching regulator. Requires an input bypass capacitor to minimize voltage transients.
2 Output Internal switch. The voltage at this pin switches between (+VIN − VSAT) and approximately −0.5 V, with a duty cycle of VOUT / VIN.
3 Ground Circuit ground
4 Feedback Senses the regulated output voltage to complete the feedback loop.
5 ON/OFF Logic input that allows the switching regulator circuit to be shut down, reducing input supply current to approximately 80 µA.
